Sprouts & TruthWalkers::
We are learning about Jesus turning water into wine - one of his first miracles! We are also learning that a miracle is something that only God can do!
Project 56::
We are continuing to learn about Spiritual Disciplines with the focus this week on Meditation. Christian meditation, that is! How to think and pray about what God says in His Word.
KidLife::
This week's lesson is on the Story of the Found Son out of Luke 15:11-32! We will learn about how God is forgiving.

BIG update

It's been entirely tooo long since I've posted/updated.

There are some BIG changes happening in the children's ministry at FUMC of Port St. Joe! God is moving and we are following! The schedule is changing. The material is changing. Our God is staying the same.

1) 6th grade is staying in the children's ministry. Since the change in the school system, we figured this would be the best option. More on what's offering in a bit...

2) We are starting a Wednesday Night program: Kid Life. We will meet in the Sanctuary for right now. This will be a time for Choir, worship, Bible Study & some games. This is for ANYONE in Kindergarten-6th grade. Preschool & under get to hang out in the nursery until someone steps up to lead that group. This starts August 24th.

3) We are changing up Sunday mornings with new Sunday school material. We will be using a curriculum called 252 Basics. It is some of the best stuff out there. Each month we will cover a virute with the first one being "Grow Up!" I cannot wait to see what God is going to do through this! So if you haven't been coming to Sunday School - September will be an EXCELLENT time to start. We will start this new material on September 4th!

4) Wednesdays will also hold a new group just for 5th & 6th graders. We will meet each Wednesday from 4-5:15 PM in the Youth Room upstairs. This will be a time of hanging out and getting to know God and each other a little better. You better believe there will be some awesome snacks . 5th & 6th graders will need to bring their Bible's each week. You guys get to help come up with a group name during our first meeting!

we will be beginning a kids choir on wednesday nights! the choir will start meeting on october 6th at 6 pm in the 3rd-5th grade sunday school room upstairs.
we will be working on our upcoming christmas program which will take place on sunday, december 12th at 6 pm. the christmas program is entitled "star of wonder." you can click here to listen to some of the songs and read a little about it.

each year, i throw an end of the school year party for the ending of our afterschool programs at my church. this year, i asked for suggestions from the kids. i would now like to share them with you. there are definitely come creative minds in this bunch. (obviously no idea of what "budget" means either!) i am including their spellings. my comments will be in red, just so you know. each bullet point is a separate kid's ideas. i love this!

so for your enjoyment...

-go skiing or shipwreck island water park in panama city

-field trip (sea world), inflatables (bouncey houses, slides, etc.), gross party, art party, sweets party, sports party, animal party, costume party, silly party, haunted party

-3 bounce houses, water slide, pump it up, day of video games, candy pool, slip-n-slide, candy for snack, capture the flag (boys vs. girls), sumo wrestling, obstacal corurse, zippline

-water balloons and water slides, water day, throw pies at miss deborah (lovely), throw paint balls at miss deborah (also lovely)

-water gun, paint balloons, skick are head in pie, a bowl of jello and try to get marbiles with our toes out of the jello, ships & sailors with wanter on the ground, big marshmallows in our mouth & try to get it as far as u can who ever wins gets to throw a pant pie mixed with pie at miss debra, if it's a tie, miss derbra throws at us.

-a water aventer! watersile, water bouncey house, mini pool (or big), pizza & lemonade, bloons, MUD! (with dirt counting water), walk over to beach, walk over glass plats, thow pies at peaple (counting teackers), fight game (mud, stuffed animals, water bloon), piggy races (race on pigs) (this is the funniest one to me), pillow fight, break a water bed (what?). MUD FIGHT

-the jumping balloon and jumping balloon slides, pump it up in panama city, night hide and go seek tag, velcro suit (an inflatable game!), capture the flag "boys vs girls", sumo wrestling, base ball "boys vs. girls", obie course, zip line, dodge ball, water balloon fight.

-bay, church wide hide & seek, giant slide w/ water, pump it up, candy pool, syrp slip n slide, football, velcro jumpy thingy, person claw game (no clue), capture the flag! "boys vs. girls", air sumo wrestling, arnold baseball (again no clue), maze, obby course, karoke, sky diving, zip line!!!!!!, fort battles "boys vs. girls", dodge ball, water balloon fight boys vs. girls, tie girls down on highway (nice, huh?), swiss alps, tug-a-war in mud, mud football

-pump it up house, 3 bouncy, slip in slide, candy pool, soda house, velcro suit, capture the flag(b vs g), air sof war, sumo wrestling, obi course, pump it up, day of video games, zip lining, paint ball war, dodge ball, water balloon fight, tug of war with mud.

-backwards day - for example: drawing contest with your left hand, other games: take two paper plates and try to made it from stat to finish only stepping on your plates. the people that fall off become a shark and walk aournd the plates. (this is actually a really good idea that i'm gonna use for another time!)

-mud sliping slide, jello marbles, make a skit, water ballon fight, pain ourselves (i think this is supposed to be paint, at least i hope), squirt wipt cream on are faces, pick out seeds in a watermelon with our feet.

-messy games, water games, bouncey houses, water bouncey houses, pool party, pizza party, balloon party, fight party (pie fight, mud fight, balloon fight, pillow fight)

-messy games!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

- on the last day of truthwalkers, i would like to do messy games, dive in jello, pie in the face, mud slide, soap slide. (there are pictures on this one!)

-go on roof, kick dodge ball, bouncey slide & slide in pool, soda pool, slip-n-slide, rubber band fight, velcrow suit, capure the flap, freeze tag boys aginst girls, sumo wrestling, opticle cource, bouncey football, glider, zip line, paitball fight (saftey gear), dodge ball, water balloon fight, ski down montana mtns, make mud house.

last year, we did lots of fun, messy games. so some of these ideas are continuation of that. clearly mud is a big deal this year. i'll let you know what we end up doing.

this sunday is easter sunday! while we will be celebrating the resurrection of our savior, we will also be having our annual easter egg hunt. it will take place immediately following the 11 o'clock service! we will have spaces for smaller kids and big ones!!

by the way, we will be hiding eggs at 8 AM on sunday morning! come on by and hide a few eggs for our kids!

Advent packages went out to the children of FUMC today. I enjoy giving advent gifties because it is something that is not often recognized. I think that children should learn the importance of advent and what it actually means. I love advent. Advent is a season of the church that comes before Christmas. It is a period of waiting for the celebration of the birth of Jesus. We prepare ourselves, our hearts, and our homes for the joy that Jesus' birth bring us!
I encourage you to spend this time of advent learning more about and growing closer to Jesus. God gave us the best gift in all of creation when He sent Jesus to us. Let's welcome Him into our lives and homes this season and for the rest of our lives!

Palm Sunday & Easter Egg Hunts

There is LOTS going at FUMC on Sunday, April 5th.

To start off with - the children will be waving palm branches at both services. For the 9 AM service, please have your children meet me (Deborah) at the fellowship hall door by 8:55 AM. For the 11 AM service, have your children meet me on the steps of the Sanctuary by 10:45 AM. We will wave our branches to welcome Jesus into the church for Holy week! For some information on the history of Palm Sunday, click here.

Also happening that day are our annual Easter Egg Hunts - that's right, hunts.
Hunt #1 is for any child that is in 1st grade and under. It will take place right after the 11 AM service. Meet us under the pavilion!
Hunt #2 is for 2nd-5th graders. It will start at 6:30 PM in the Fellowship hall. We will be doing several egg related activities until it gets dark so we can hunt our eggs at night! Be sure to bring your flashlights!!

I just found out about this cool new site called Jelly Telly. It's a site for kids that has Christian cartoon clips and games that they can play. It's a safe way for them to play online. You can try the first month free and then if you want to subscribe it's only $2.99 a month. Looks pretty cool!

Registration forms are available NOW! Come by the church office to pick one up!

Note for Parents: Since there is no charge for these programs, we are asking that you commit to serving at least one day with Sprouts/TruthWalkers. There will be an opportunity to sign up when you pick up your child(ren) on the first day.

Just a reminder:
There will be a Children's Ministry parent meeting on Wednesday, August 13th at 5:30 PM in the church parlor. We will be discussing what happens during our weekly programs, what we hope to accomplish over this next year, and give you the opportunity to ask questions. There will also be a chance for you to sign up to serve in our Children's Ministry programs.

I enjoy working with your kids and look forward to seeing how much they have grown over the summer!

what a year + other stuff

Our weekly programs have ended for this school year. Sprouts and TruthWalkers were lots of fun. We learned about the Lord's Prayer. We got dirty and we raised enough money to send 45 mosquito bed nets to Cameroon, Africa. The little guys in Mother's Morning Out grew so much over the past year. It's hard to believe some of them will be in Preschool soon.

Playground update: We will be working on our playground on Saturday, May 31st starting at 8 AM. This is very important that we get this done as VBS is right around the corner!!!

VBS is June 9-13. You can pre-register at www.vacationbibleschool.com/fumcpsj. God's Big Backyard is waiting!!

our playground is finally under renovation!!! all the new parts have arrived and all the old stuff is moved out of the way! as soon as i find the cord for my camera, i'll post some pictures.
